Genre: History/Biography/Drama/Romance

Starring: Emily Blunt, Rupert Friend, Paul Bettany, Miranda Richardson, Mark Strong

Queen Victoria (Blunt) Queen of England during the 1800's was the longest reigning British Sovereign till date. She took the throne at a mere 18 years of age amidst speculation of her abilities as to rule as Queen. King William IV did not have any heir to pass on the throne to and Victoria was his only choice. Should he die, Victoria would be too young to rule as Queen and a regent had to be appointed. Victoria's mother, The Duchess of Kent (Richardson) along with Sir John Conroy (Strong) wished that Victoria sign a regency where in she states that she is too young to rule Britain and hence appoints her mother as a regent to rule instead of her. She denies the regency and on turning 18 and the subsequent death of the King, Victoria is appointed Queen of England. She romanced her first cousin Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha (Friend) and subsequently married him. Most of the movie revolves around Prince Albert and Queen Victoria's romance and their eventual marriage. The movie does not touch upon Queen Victoria's political life and limits itself to her inception to the throne and early marriage. Charming performance by Emily Blunt helps make the movie smooth to go by. The movie could have shown some insights about the Queen not known to many which might have increased its appeal to a greater extent. A comfortable watch, nonetheless but not quite entertaining.

Thumbs up: Emily Blunt
Thumbs down: Not very entertaining

Rating: 6.7/10
